Dogs for Adoption
North Auckland Dog Rescue operates under North Auckland Animal Rescue Charitable Trust a NZ Registered Charity - CC47906. We are a non–profit group of volunteer dog lovers whose mission is to rescue, provide sanctuary, and ultimately re-home abandoned, stray and neglected dogs, in particular those in Auckland Council Pounds At this time, most of our dogs come from Northern Animal Shelter which is the pound for the North Shore and Rodney areas. As of 2012 around 3,500 dogs are killed in Auckland Pounds every year.
This is an appalling statistic and will only be reduced by ensuring that domestic pets are desexed before they reach 6 months of age. All of our dogs are housed in foster homes where they are provided with a safe haven, basic training and any medical attention that may be required to ensure that they are in good health before adoption. They are all de-sexed, registered, micro-chipped and vaccinated before being placed in their new homes. Our dogs are evaluated for temperament and behavior before they leave the pound and again as an ongoing process whilst in foster care.
This helps us to place them into homes that are well suited to their needs and to the needs of their future owners. When foster homes are available and finances permit we also assist dogs who, because of numerous circumstances, are unable to remain in their homes with their owners. We do encourage these owners to try to re-home their dogs themselves to keep our foster homes free for the dogs who have no-one to help them. We are happy to help owners with re-homing by way of advice and advertising. If you are looking for a specific type of dog and do not see it on our advertisements, please email us. We work closely with other rescue groups and animal shelters and may be able to assist you in finding your next canine companion.
